Windcredible, The Carbon Games and Hortee are the winners of the Clean Future!

Windcredible, a startup of micro wind turbines that produce energy anywhere, is the global winner and the winner of the construction category of the first edition of Clean Future, an acceleration programme for technology-based solutions in CleanTech, one of the operations of the Hub Criativo do Beato Living Lab, a living lab promoted by Unicorn Factory Lisboa and Startup Lisboa. Hortee and The Carbon Games are the winners of the Retail and Mobility categories respectively.

The Clean Future acceleration programme was created to support the creation and development of technological solutions that foster sustainability in order to create smart cities, namely in three key areas: construction, mobility and retail.

The selection of winners and the award ceremony took place at Demo Day, at Fábrica do Pão in Hub Criativo do Beato, attended by the entrepreneurial ecosystem community. The winners were selected by a jury composed of representatives of the programme partners. Each winner of their category received a monetary prize of €5K, and the global winner of the programme received a total prize of €10K, totalling €20K awarded in prizes. The winners now have the opportunity to continue the development of their projects at Startup Lisboa and can continue to be supported by the different partners of the programme.

The Programme had five leading partners in their areas, who delivered the awards of their category and to the global winner of the programme: Deloitte, as Knowledge Partner, CTT as Strategic Partner, and the three partners of each of the categories: MEXT of the Grupo Mota-Engil in Construction, EMEL in Mobility and GS1 Portugal in Retail.

The winners of the Clean Future Programme were:

  • Windcredible, as global winner and winner in the Construction category, is centered on the development and production of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTS) for urban use, a renewable energy technology that generates electricity from wind.
  • Hortee in the Retail category, is reinventing local and sustainable food shopping by connecting consumers with fresh food producers through private and public community facilitators, for online shopping, local pop-up markets and pick-up points.
  • The Carbon Games in the Mobility category, is a pioneering climate tech startup that is revolutionising sustainable mobility through innovative carpooling solutions and a cutting-edge carbon credit marketplace.

"The next steps for Windcredible are to implement our pilot turbines with partners who are interested in being pioneers in using our technology, and also to develop other components of the product such as aerodynamics, electrical and software", said Filipe Fernandes, CEO of Windcredible, the Programme's global winning startup.

Clean Future participants had access to a programme consisting of several initiatives, such as visits to the ecosystem, workshops and immersive mentoring sessions that aimed to accelerate the development of the selected projects for ten weeks. In this last stage of the programme, the startups had the opportunity to present the solutions developed to a jury, consisting of Gil Azevedo, Startup Lisboa and Unicorn Factory Lisboa; Inês Costa, Deloitte; Nuno Matos, CTT; Pedro Pantaleão, MEXT; Francisca Ramalhosa, EMEL; Pedro Lima, GS1 Portugal; and Eduardo Silva, Lisboa E-Nova.
